“Inspired by the Egyptian Book of the Dead, Burroughs explores the after-death state by means of dream scenarios, hallucinatory passages, talismanic magic, occultism, superstition, and his characteristic view of the nature of reality.”

I’m the first one in class and the last to leave.
I mean the first one to leave out of class; believe
that I’m a mailbox pimp in my heart ’til I die,
even after I’m all gone and my ashes fry.

Mind you that in 1997, in the American mainstream, Hip Hop was not Hip Hop anymore. There were no B-boys, there was no graffiti. I’m not sure they even had DJs that could cut. All you had was bling bling Rap. The Jason Nevins Run DMC remix was a notable exception but, other than that, you had to go to brits like Fatboy Slim to see this sort of thing.

The Not Safe For Work (NSFW) Fortnight, Week 3 (one more nut): all these tunes, most of them House, will throw sex sounds, or sex lyrics—sooner or later.

From what I gather, this is a song about a guy that owns porno store. There’s not much of a story to it; he owns a pornoshop and wants to invite you to it.

The Not Safe For Work (NSFW) fortnight: all the tunes these next couple of weeks (most of them House) will throw sex sounds or sex lyrics, sooner or later

At first, this song was annoying; the beat was decent but the lyrics were repetitive and her voice seemed to clash on top of the music. I thought: “OK, ha ha, it’s funny but it’s not even good comedy seeing as it only has two lines. Why couldn’t she just write more lyrics to at least try to save the song? It’s a novelty song, let me play some real music … ”.

Later, on good speakers (balanced EQ), where the bass was coming in stronger and the sound was better mixed, it started sounding good; “Damn, it’s got a little groove. OK, OK …”.
[Say what you want about the song but, back when, if you were making House in Chicago or New York you had to know a little something.]

Finally, after I saw the guy in the video doing that old House stepping (@ 1:35, on stage, black and white scene), I was trying out my own moves talking about “Don’t want no short dick man!”

This almost made “Too Good Monday” …
